I bought this expansion tank on the recommendation of a friend despite there being less expensive models out there. Having just replaced my 13 year old water heater and knowing that code now dictates the use of an expansion tank I decided to spend the money on this one. This tank is probably overkill for my needs but why skimp when you've just spend four figures on a new heater?
As stated in another review the end of the tank is male thus you need to find or make an appropriate female adapter if you're using a saddle valve. I massively recommend NOT using a saddle value even though the instructions with this tank show one being used. I realize that a saddle value makes the installation very easy requiring no tools really, but if you know someone who can sweat pipe cutting into the line and installing a proper Tee adapter is the way to go. Why not install a dedicated cut off while you have the pipe drained too. I also highly recommend using a J hook to brace the pipe either side of the tank as it's large and fairly heavy. The images on the box of this tank don't show it being braced and you really don't want that much weight on your pipe without proper support.
So the tank is in place and it's doing its thing taking the expansion pressure off my new water heater and ensuring it has a good long life. It can be installed in no time yourself using a saddle valve or by a qualified plumber which the route I'd recommend.
